It was a stock
corporation, created at 1959. Since february of 1978 it became a government
corporation and subordinated at CAIXA ECONOMICA
FEDERAL social bank. This has happened to
let the Datamec supports the Lottery Systems
installed over responsibility of Caixa Economica Federal and other application
systems such as Educational Credit System. Following the privatization
federal program, at beginning of July of 1999, the Datamec became again
a private corporation, when UNISYS company
took the control of Datamec.

I was hired to
work at the centralized support team of Lottery
Project. My main responsibility was to keep
running the background installation and applications related with lottery
systems. The main process was to receive weekly the tape cartridges
sent to us from specialized Lottery Shops spread into most of all brazilian
cities and states. Then these cartridges were processed using specialized
application designed and running over Sisco S-8000 mid-range computers.
We used several special taped reader devices that could read simultaneously
eight cartridges at same time. Should be found the associated printed
document for all records that were not readable by the tape handlers, for
any physical problems and reasons. These documents were then typed by operators.
During the cartridges reading the stake databases were
created. Then these databases were transferred to the Burroughs main-frames.
In these main-frames were processed the whole lottery's data to find the
game winners. After that were produced and sent the listings to all lottery
shops and CEF bank branches. Some winners could received the payment into
the lottery shop. Depending on the value, some winners should receive the
payments only into the branches of Caixa Economica federal bank. Then we
should control the expire-time for winners who has not looked for
the prizes.
- I had the opportunity
to be at the leading team who has gotten the responsibility to plain the
processing of Loto Game
twice a week. It was done just once a week. One senator has decided to propose
this new modality and it was accept by the public. This was a big challenge
to our team. At first time everybody was thinking that was very easy to
do that. But the systems was changed to include new routines. The logistic
of the whole process was revised. New people was hired. A lot of procedures
were written and some others replaced. The training sections was did to
teach everybody involved. The whole chain of lottery shops were affected.
The maintenance people, equipment and spare parts were increased and prepared.
A significant amount of money was spent. Were six months of huge activities
to let us achieved the deadline inspected.
